The island of Skopelos
About Skopelos
Skopelos is a Greek island in the western Aegean.
About the location
Skopelos is one of the many islands that make up the Northern Sporades island complex, which lies east of the Pelion peninsula on the mainland and north of the island of Evoia.
It's History
According to legend, Skopelos was founded by Staphylos, one of the sons of the god Dionysus and the princess Ariadne of Crete. Historically, in the Late Bronze Age the island, then known as Peparethos, was colonized by Cretans, who introduced viticulture to the island.
Agnonta Port
At a short distance of about 8 km from the town of Skopelos and after a bend under Amaranto, the magnificent landscape of Agnotas emerges, named after the pride of ancient Peparithos, the Olympian Agnotas or Agnon, who returned to his homeland of the laurel wreath from his victory at Olympia in 568 BC.
Panagitsa of the rock
The church of Panagitsa of Pyrgos is the small church you see when you enter the port of Skopelos. The church is also called the Church of the Entry of the Virgin. In fact, it is the registered trademark of Skopelos Town.
Amarantos beach
Amarantos is a rocky promontory with the main characteristic of the two curved pines that embrace the sea above the rock. The green of the pines, the white rocks and the deep blue of the waters make up an enchanting landscape.
